Voice
Voice explores the remnants of community interactions through a telephone pole covered in staples—each one marking where a note, flyer, or announcement once hung, representing voices, needs, and messages now long gone. The staples, scattered and clustered, create a textured map of past connections, capturing the essence of shared spaces and community exchanges.
To bring this concept to life, I have strung lines throughout the space, connecting various points, symbolizing the threads of communication that once linked people through these messages. As these strings converge, they form a delicate network, mirroring the bonds that once grew organically within communities. Over time, this network weakens, reflecting how this form of shared physical interaction has diminished, replaced by fleeting digital exchanges.
Voice invites us to consider the changes in how we communicate and connect, challenging us to appreciate the lingering traces of these human interactions and the role they once played in building community. This installation serves as a quiet reminder of the voices that still echo in the spaces we inhabit, encouraging us to reconnect with the tactile, personal nature of these past exchanges.
